National Lottery and Sales Promotion Symposium

The consumer sales promotion has become a predominant phenomenon in Nigeria. No matter the place or time of day, the lure of the consumer sales promotion is as pervasive as it is intoxicating. It has become a staple of our daily existence.

Service and product providers plead that the consumer sales promotion is a marketing tool essential to generating sales and promoting business. Often these promotions feature lottery-like schemes where customers are asked to enter a contest of chance, to win a prize.

Consumers are ever-ready to take advantage of “promos” offering price discounts, vacation trips, product-giveaways, and other various prizes. For their part, industry regulators like the Consumer Protection Council (CPC), the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), and the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) continue to scrutinize consumer sales promotions to strike a fair balance between the legitimate right of merchants to promote their products and the need to protect Nigerians from unfair trade practice, fraud, and under-age participants.

The Event:

The National Lottery Regulatory Commission is hosting a two-day national symposium as part of its on-going campaign to heighten public awareness about lottery and consumer sales promotions.

The commission has no regulatory control over consumer sales promotions but it has the legal mandate to prevent unlawful lotteries. Pertinent issues will be discussed in different interactive sessions under separate themes.

Topic facilitators and industry pundits shall guide discussion to important issues. Participants shall be invited to share experiences, highlights challenges, and offer practical solutions.

At the conclusion of this forum, participants shall have attained a working understanding of lottery and consumer sales promotions; practical skills in identifying the boundaries between them and the law(s) governing such activities.

This SYMPOSIUM is a must for everyone. Important experiences shall be exchanged and valuable lessons learned. Stakeholders in the private and public sectors are invited to participate and contribute to this dynamic discussion.
